How to Fade a Bevel Line
In this video, Daniel Reach demonstrates a simple trick that will immediately improve your beveling. In most cases, you will bevel either a blunt line or a tapered line. The trick is to bevel just barely past where your swivel cut ends, which creates a more subtle taper that fades into nothing.

Wish I'd known to watch live. I'm new and need a little help. A popular pattern I have sells quickly especially when I can make it in teal leather. But it seems like when I sew it, it seems to have less room inside than when using faux leather. How do I enlarge the pattern without distorting the holes for hand sewing? I don't need them to enlarge when the pattern does. I also want to know what Weaver has in teal that is 4-5 oz that is stiff enough to use for a purse or bag that will stand.
Hi there, we go live every other Wednesday at 3 PM eastern! Next live will be July 3. It's a little bit hard to explain in writing but if you enlarge a pattern, you'll have to add more stitching holes to accommodate the larger pattern. If you're doing it online just use the spacing from the previous pattern and create a new stitch line. If it's a hand drawn pattern, you could mark the holes with stitching chisels. That all depends on the complexity of the pattern, etc. We do sell some teal leather, it ranges anywhere from 3-6 oz. We will link a few options below for you. @@WeaverLeatherSupply thank you for responding
I just subscribed. I have leather I have collected and want to make something. Once I started a teddy bear from an abused leather jacket the probably spent many nights at a bar. Found at a garage sale. At this point the body is done (amateur!) And head is done. Now trying get them together with my limited knowledge. Thinking that maybe I just take to a shoe-maker to get it finished. And I landed here! At 78 I really do not need another art/craft but watching your videos are so tempting.
What a treat! Entertaining!
Thank you for watching and subscribing! We hope you continue dabbling in leatherworking!
Thanks Chuck!
Chuck, thank you so much for the great videos! I just started in leather working and have found your videos very helpful. I made my first order from Weaver for leather today. I chose to start with bellies from one of your videos. Time to dive in!
Thank you so much and we hope you love leathercrafting!

John here from North Carolina
I love it when I get comments from people saying they like my bracelet and watch cuff I made for myself.
That's the best!
I'll be glad when I can retire, I'll finally be able to catch a live with Chuck Dorsett.
Me too! I got 4 more years and I am free!!!
I retired at the tail end of 2021. I've only made the live once since then. I think I'm skill screwed up from when it went to every other week. I'm not mad since Chuck uses the time to make the friday videos.
Doing good, I am grateful we have cloudy skies.
what are the other attachments for
There's a groover blade and then a flat piece that will just leave a mark without cutting into the leather.
Might have been easier to pick up if you had added the mallet/beveler sounds.
this is the best leather video ever
Hello, another great video. Is it possible to make moulds with more complex shapes? I was thinking of making a 2 part mould with a bubbled texture (like a giant raspberry) and sandwich the leather between them. Do you think it would work?
Absolutely, you can definitely go more complex!
Thank You Ladies !! PS: what color are this beautiful nails 😉 👍
Daniel you did a nice job on this journal cover. I “dip” dye as much as I can if I have a container big enough to fit the project in or through the dye container. If I have to dye a large project, then I use a 3” sponge brush to dye it. Best regards, Richard
Thanks for the video
Thank you for the great tip. Telling us is great but I need like seeing it done!
I always enjoy the beginner tips!
Awesome tip!!! Thanks.

W man. Needed for all of our projects. ❤
Good job Chuck
Thank you
Love the safety tips!
Thanks Chuck, great video ! Great information, thanks for sharing .
Thank you. It s realy clear! When wet molding should be done ?
If you can tool while the item is on the mold, that is ideal. If not you can wet mold after tooling, but, you may lose a little bit of definition since you are stretching the leather as you mold it.
As I was watching this, I saw that name DiResta and thought "That's an unusual name, I wonder if it's the same guy that makes the icepick?" I was very happy to see one in your pocket when you put the holster on your belt.
OLD Leather Smith here, Thanks Daniel you did a picture of ME!! Yhe only difference is my mustache goes up, but other than that it's ME. GOD'S BLESSINGS ✝️🥎🙃
OLD Leather Smith here, yes Chuck all those R great things 2 know 4 getting started. I started a loooong time ago so I use a straight razor blade snd round knife and an exacto knife 4 intricate cuts. Your leather thicknesses R right on. U might want 2 try a carpet end protector 2 use as a straight edge and it also protects fingers, U just have 2 sand off the blunt edge. The pondo board is great I also use 4 cutting and stamping. Just some things I have learned 2 use in my shop. GOD'S BLESSINGS ✝️🥎🙃
Great tips, thank you!
Love your channel, thank you
Thanks for watching!
Thanx😊
I've seen lots of leatherworking videos on youtube but the leather element taught me almost everything I know now. Thank you!
Thank you so much!
Why is it that not a single Scabbard has a D rings hook up or something for shoulder strap to carry the rifle on the back?
This specific sling was made to be attached to tack when you're riding but you can use the same scabbard pattern and add two billets and a strap that clips onto the billets for wearing across your shoulder.
I love your videos Chuck. Thanks.
Thank you!
Great video! Really is helpful!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks Chuck! God bless you.
What do you use on the back to stabilize your project while it is cased
You can use clear packing tape or painters tape and that will keep the leather from stretching as you tool.
Thanks, Chuck! Thanks, Weaver.
Thanks
Good video. Great tips. God bless. From Glenn CATT. In Massachusetts.
Thanks for watching!
Appreciate the content great information as always 🤙
What great advice and thanks for letting new workers into the secrets and skills ❤
You were and are still a great inspiration to me Chuck! Thank you for all the great advice and project ideas! Keep 'em coming!
Thank you so much!
Thanks for the video
I blame you for getting me into leather working a couple of years ago. 🤣
I blame my belt for falling apart, and there being a leather store on my way home from work. I can't work with my pants falling down.
Lol! You're welcome, I think! :)
Im I tripping, or that backstitch is out of the holes? :D
Thank you
Thank you, Daniel. Really good food for thought during a project. Was that Gandalf in your project? Looks just like him.
Thank you! And yes! It was Gandalf.
